Should a poet carry a spanner as well as a pen?
WIP
When the poet asks ‘What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare,'
We should rouse him from his soporofic stance.
For if there is no beauty where people glance
There is 'No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows'.
We should rouse him from his soporofic stance.
For if there is no beauty where people glance
We should make such beauty so that all can see
For beauty should not be reserved for just you and me.
So put down the pen, and pick up the sword,
For, in action it is steel that is mightier than the word
and only spanner and pump that will give clean water to the world
Let us take food from the lands of the richest countries
And say no when asked to 'Do you want that with fries'
And give that food to the half of the world that go hungry.
Let us not look for beauty in the humble places
And not just in art galleries and expensive palaces
But seek out the the squalor everywhere
And make it beautiful too.
Only then should we rest, and stand and stare
At the beauty we made, ......
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
